We are the 2. SS Panzer Division "Deutschland" Regiment, a group of WWII collectors and enthusiasts who are dedicated to the accurate portrayal of the German Soldier of this period. We reenact wartime soldaten both publically and tactically for fun and historical exploration, with the added benefit of being occasionally educational to others. The majority of our members are prior or current military (who for some reason unbeknownst to even us can't get enough of it), but come from all walks of life: blue, white, and stained-collar.
Our unit's accuracy requirements are strict to historical guidelines. While we strive valiantly against the paintball commandos of the world, we also keep in mind that hobbies are supposed to be fun (who knew). We collect both accurate reproduction and original items, including uniforms, weaponry, equipment and vehicles. Members are expected to immerse themselves in events, leaving cars and comfort at the gates, both to promote authenticity in our impressions and personally get the full benefits of the reenactment experience. Since many of us have geneological ties to the Fatherland (or just really like schnapps), we're also concerned with heritage and cultural study of our ancestral homeland during the wartime era.
Deutschland Regiment portrays all aspects of a Waffen-SS Regiment, including major combat and supportive roles. Our members' impressions cover infantry, reconnaissance, signals, MP, and medical. The main infantry portrays both high mobility foot soldiers and heavy weaponry personnel, with mortars being one of our specialties. Infantrymen provide the main combat fire, both offensively and defensively, and are prepared to challenge enemy fire through heavy arsenal and exemplary tactics. Movement of infantry troops is especially aided by our original and reproduction vehicles: a Kubelwagen, BMW motorcycle with sidecar, and 1.5 ton truck.
The Aufklarungs battalion focuses heavily on scouting, communications and mobility in the field of battle. As its classification would suggest, they are the first to enter and chart terrain, and prepare for the entrance of heavy artillery to combat the enemy. The goal of a recon group is acquisition of information with speed and stealth, ideally entering and leaving a combat zone with minimal enemy contact.
Our members are highly skilled in weapons accuracy, stealth tactics, and preparedness for the unexpected during battle. Since we portray a variety of soldaten, the individual skills of our members vary to be adaptable to the needs of the situation.
Members of Deutschland Regiment have flexible reenactment schedules, offering potential members a workable commitment to their participation in the hobby. The unit's home site is the Onondaga, MI battlefield, and we attend tactical events there twice annually. Between, our members attend public events throughout the region to showcase our unit and interact with others in the hobby. We have developed tactical affiliations with many units in the hobby, and enjoy symbiotic relationships wherein infantry and reconnaisance provide each other dual support.
While
members are encouraged to attend events independent of the unit at large, every
participant is held to the highest standards of behavior and conduct whether
alone or in our group. For participation standards and rules, please check out
our Unit Handbook.
